Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Agent to support our vehicle upfitting operations. This role is responsible for sourcing, ordering, and tracking parts, materials, and equipment used in custom vehicle builds and upfits. The ideal candidate will have experience in automotive or manufacturing purchasing, strong vendor negotiation skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure parts, equipment, tools, and services required for vehicle upfitting projects in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Collaborate with project managers, warehouse staff, and installers to forecast material needs based on upcoming builds
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships to ensure pricing, quality, and delivery expectations are met
- Manage purchase orders (POs), from creation to delivery, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Track shipments and delivery timelines, resolving any delays or discrepancies
- Work with Receiving and Warehouse teams to resolve any receiving issues or defective items (RMA process)
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, inventory levels, and supplier communications
- Identify and suggest cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
- Monitor supplier performance and manage vendor scorecards
- Stay current on industry trends, part availability, and supply chain risks
- Own and manage the Change order process.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of purchasing experience (automotive or upfitting industry preferred)
- Strong understanding of vehicle parts and components used in upfitting (e.g., lighting, electrical, racks, storage systems)
- Experience using ERP or inventory management systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, etc.)
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and general office software
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and build sheets
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple vendors and priorities simultaneously
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with RMA processes and vendor returns
- Experience working with fleet upfitting or municipal/commercial vehicle projects
- Basic understanding of inventory control and warehouse operations
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $41,600.00 - $45,760.00 per year
