REPORTS TO: Recreation Manager
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM (50% of Weekends)
JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time position under the supervision of the Recreation Manager. This individual shall organize and implement sports-related leagues, camps, and social classes for the City of Holland Parks and Recreation Department.
Examples of Duties
1. Assists in planning, organizing, and overseeing youth and adult sports leagues, related classes, tournaments, and other recreational programs.
2. Establish league schedules, reserves athletic fields/courts, recruits volunteer coaches and coordinates the formation of teams. Observe and evaluate all programs and facilities.
3. Assists in supervising, training, and evaluating program staff.
4. Assists with the preparation of annual budget recommendations for all assigned programs. Helps to create budget, regulation and policy recommendations.
5. Works in cooperation with all Holland area community groups, City of Holland, area school districts, area recreation departments and other organizations that benefit the community.
6. Assists the department in recreational operations regarding facility rentals and management and rentals.
7. Assists in reviewing and analyzing the progress, effectiveness, and adequacy of recreation programs. Recommends the addition, elimination, or revision of programs as necessary.
8. Regularly reviews and inspects facilities and equipment for any potential hazards and reports and submits repair/replacement requests to the City of Holland Parks and Recreation Department.
9. Responsible for following safety rules, policies, regulations, and procedures. Completes accident reports and files them with the Parks and Recreation Department. Provides a safe and enjoyable atmosphere at all times.
10. Prepares and maintains records and reports.
11. Maintains a positive working relationship with other employees and the general public. Maintains a professional image, in person, through email, and by phone.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Attends seminars and/or conferences, maintains membership in professional associations, and reads professional publications to obtain information on the latest trends and developments in the recreation field.
2.Research trends in the recreation field.
3.Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
1. The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or a related field.
2. One to two years of experience in recreation programming and related activities preferred. Supervisory experience not required but ideal.
3. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with City officials and the general public in situations requiring tact and patience.
4. Should be comfortable with technology and be able to learn and become proficient in recreation software.
5. Experience training and leading seasonal staff preferred.
6. Mental ability to periodically handle pressures related to simultaneous management of multiple projects, and fulfilling schedule requirements.
7. Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred or obtainable.
8. Physical ability to occasionally lift/push/pull/transport equipment and materials weighting up to 50 pounds.
