JOB SUMMARY


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Radiology/Surgery RN shall perform nursing care and duties necessary for maintaining quality Radiological and Surgical Standards of Nursing Practice to the patients presented for testing or procedures. The RN will promote teamwork with physicians and personnel, demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient, and abide by Radiological and Surgery regulations per hospital policy..


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS


Experience and Education:


Minimum: Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing. Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri.


EXPERIENCE


Minimum: Staff RN – experience with outpatient procedures helpful


LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS


Minimum: Currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Missouri and in good standing with the

State Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications.


KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES REQUIRED


  • Personal technology device to download application to enable access to hospital email by multi-factor authentication.
  • Works carefully and precisely without creating unnecessary errors, pays close attention to details, completes necessary documents according to Hospital and departmental policy. Evaluates and follows-up on services provided and provides necessary services to those customers with whom the hospital serves.
  • Displays sensitivity to needs of customers, supplies customers with emotional as well as technical clinical support, speaks in a positive, professional manner about customers and the hospital. Responds promptly to customer’s requests and needs in a timely fashion.
  • Displays good organizational skills and utilizes time wisely, maintains a neat and orderly work environment. Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner and seeks additional work upon completion of assignments.

Is available to work as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows policies in regard to blood/body fluid precautions, fire safety, hazardous chemicals and infection control, utilizes protective devices, walker, wheelchair, bed side rails if hospital bed is used, as appropriate for patient safety in accordance with departmental policy and Safe Patient Handling.
  • Complies with all safety requirements for Fire Safety, demonstrates knowledge of all procedures concerning radiation safety and applies all standard safety precautions as needed.
  • Follows safety procedures and responds appropriately to emergency situations, identifies and appropriately reports hazards, and completes an Event Report of appropriate situations according to policy.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates care of patient coordinating care with other staff or providers, prepare patient/family, records, and other resources used for procedure according to departmental protocol and prioritizes the nursing care plan with sensitivity to patient needs.
  • Recognizes teaching and learning needs of the patient and family, if applicable and plans to meet these needs; may include instruction on medications, disease process, diet, activity, treatments and referral agencies as ordered by physician.
  • Provides discharge instructions for after care, per physician’s orders to prevent complications, and keeps patient/family informed, answers questions, or concerns, considering all aspects of care to deliver family centered care.
  • Accurately administers medications by appropriate route as ordered, competent in frequent IV starts and maintains accurate documentation of controlled substances.
  • Charting and documentation is performed in a timely manner, accurate with all appropriate patient information for billing and uses supplies appropriately and judiciously.
  • Will attain pre-procedure assessment of patient, including patient preparation review and expectations of procedure, assesses each patient in a systematic method using all steps of the nursing process.
  • Monitoring the patient’s cardiac rhythm before, during, and after procedures for anomalies, documents ongoing assessment and validation of patient response to nursing and medical intervention.
  • Maintains accurate record of nursing observations and care; to include the patient’s response to treatments, medication and prescribed activity, vital signs and general condition and maintains accurate records of administration of medications.
  • When applicable written documentation/labeling is legible, using correct spelling of medical terminology, with forms signed appropriately.
  • Appropriate and comprehensive documentation of the patient care on the electronic health record.
  • Knowing history, medications, and recent events that may impact patient’s reaction to procedure, including pain and symptom relief, has knowledge of patient’s condition at all times and keeps team members, physicians and supervisors/directors accurately informed.
  • Labels all medications and medication containers for example: (syringes, medicine cups, vials or medication bags/bottles).
  • Charging and Restocking supplies used for patient procedure, check crash cart, temperature logs, and glucometers.

  • Scan charts to electronic health record and radiology system.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS


Physical Activity:

  • Must be able to see patients well enough to determine skin color, facial expressions and to read monitors and chart information.
  • Must be able to hear sufficiently to carry on conversation with patient at distances of 30 feet and when not in direct eye contact with the patient (i.e., behind dividing curtain in room).
  • Must be able to hear well enough to talk on telephone, answer intercom, and determine emergency call signals.
  • Must be able to speak and communicate in English with patients, families, and staff.
  • Must have touch sensation to determine skin temperature and temperature of liquids to prevent burn injuries to patients.
  • May require being on feet majority of shift; standing, stooping, bending, reaching.

Lifting Requirements:

  • Minimum lifting: 5 lbs.
  • Maximum lifting: 75 lbs. to move

Working Conditions:

  • Adequate heating, cooling and ventilation, and work space to perform duties

  • Varies depending on area working.
  • Subjected to health (communicable and infectious diseases, contaminates from equipment processed, body fluids and tissues) and safety risks (contact with violent and combative patients, burns from sterilizers, hazardous materials, electrical hazards from equipment, anesthetic agents).
