Position Summary:
The Part-Time Shelter case manager is responsible for providing compassionate and holistic support to individuals experiencing homelessness. This role collaborates with our partner shelter organization to complete housing navigation tasks, primarily but not limited to managing a caseload of people experiencing homelessness who live in the Marshaling Yard shelter The case management will include the completion of coordinated housing assessments, diversion/rapid exit, goal setting, resource coordination and assisting clients and shelter staff in navigating housing referrals to community partners.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, or a related field.
- A master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a health-related field is preferred but not required.
- Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
- Bilingual Preferred
- Experience working in a Shelter environment, Outreach, or Housing Navigation: 2 years (Preferred)
- Detail oriented with excellent time management, organizational, written, verbal, interpersonal, and computer skills
- Able to work in a high tolerance harm reduction model with individuals who have multiple barriers
- Able to learn quickly and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
- Self-starter with the ability to stay ahead of the curve and thrive in fast-paced work environment
Position Responsibilities:
- Regularly meet with clients assigned to your caseload to assess needs, complete goal planning, provide support, and track progress.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client progress, services provided, case notes, and other relevant data in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ income, benefits eligibility, and available housing options to develop sustainable solutions.
- Develop and implement individualized service plans aimed at securing and maintaining permanent housing for clients.
- Assist clients with housing searches, ensuring options align with their specific needs and preferences.
- Drive clients to and from services as needed to complete case management goals.
- Participate in regular Sunrise staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed on best practices and organizational updates.
- Collaborate with the Marshalling Yard partner agency and other community resources to coordinate services and meet client needs effectively.
- If applicable based on licensure, provide supervision and mentorship to interns.
Position Considerations:
- Monday through Friday, Shifts occur between 9a-6p.
- This position will be based out of the Marshaling Yard shelter, located in southeast Austin
- Rotating weekend shifts and/or holiday shifts and/or irregular hours during extreme weather events may be required, but not anticipated at this time
- Use of personal transportation to travel to and from locations will be required. Mileage is reimbursed.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
- Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments
- Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor
- May need to bend, stoop, twist and sit throughout the day
- This position works under the supervision of the Mobile and Shelter Services Program Manager as part of the Mobile & Shelter Services team, but will largely function as a member of the shelter provider’s staff team
- This position will likely be required to attend various client staffing meetings in cooperation with partners.
