Summary
Substitute Crossing Guards are responsible for the safe crossing of school children and other pedestrians at designated crosswalks when regularly scheduled crossing guards are unavailable. This is an on-call, part-time position with variable hours depending on school schedules and absences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist children and pedestrians safely across streets before and after school.
- Monitor traffic and ensure vehicles come to a complete stop before allowing pedestrians to cross.
- Communicate clearly with children, parents, and drivers using hand signals or verbal instructions.
- Report any suspicious activity or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures established by the Clinton City Police Department.
- Maintain punctuality and reliability when scheduled.
- Wear provided safety equipment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, etc.).
- Reliable transportation to and from assigned crossing locations.
- Ability to remain alert and focused while standing for extended periods.
- A background check will be conducted prior to employment.
Working Conditions
- Outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to traffic and noise from vehicles.
- May involve standing or walking for up to 2 hours per shift.
Schedule
- Morning and/or afternoon shifts aligned with local school start and end times.
- Hours vary depending on need; position is on-call and does not guarantee a set number of hours.
