Reports to Director/Manager. Responsibilities include the continuous and efficient operation of maintenance programs for the assigned Hospital and mechanical and electrical equipment infrastructure and grounds. Develops, recommends and implements policies and procedures for Departmental operations. Directs the activities of assigned staff and maintains related records required to comply with accrediting agencies and other regulatory organizations. Serves as a representative of facilities engineering and acts as a liaison with other departments.

Ensures a continuous and efficient operation of maintenance programs for the Hospital, and assigned areas of Beacon Health System mechanical and electrical equipment and facilities by:
- Maintaining responsibility for overseeing the performance of all hospital life support systems; including fire systems, medical gas equipment, utility management, and nutritional services equipment through computerized maintenance management systems, preventive maintenance activities; also making repairs as required.
- Managing, maintaining and recording the status of equipment, ensuring that all specifications are met, required adjustments completed, repairs completed in a timely manner and preventive maintenance requirements are consistently met.
- Analyzing equipment malfunctions to determine action necessary to prevent recurring problems (such as necessary changes, costs, the amount of time necessary to change and determining if outside contracts are necessary); also making recommendations to the Director/Manager on items requiring capital expenditures.
- Assisting in developing recommendations for all hospital utility and plant engineering requirements; in addition to evaluating capital expense requests for present or future expansion, as part of the hospital's strategic planning process.
- Supervising assigned professional staff engaged in engineering services repairs, utilizing one's ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, diagrams and specifications.
- Ensuring that work areas are kept in a safe, clean and orderly condition and that a safe environment is maintained for staff, patients and visitors.?
Functions as the Administrative Resource to Staff by:
- Supervising facility engineering activities and supporting staff.
- Reporting to and providing direction in emergency/crisis situations (i.e., fire drills/alarms, snow emergencies, disasters, staff concerns, etc.).
- Functioning as an information resource to staff regarding policies, procedures and practices.
- Making rounds on Units/Departments and monitoring activities. Intervening appropriately to ensure the effectiveness of patient care activities/outcomes.
- Facilitating independent problem solving and decision making when working with staff in complex and/or unusual situations.
- Serving as a facility engineering liaison among hospital departments. Providing direction and assisting with defining solutions that ensure appropriate patient/staff outcomes.
- Providing appropriate information, communication and documentation to other staff, regarding situations and/or outcomes requiring follow-up and/or further intervention.
- Supporting and interpreting policies, procedures and standards. Recommending changes and/or enhancements to the appropriate Director/Manager.
- Assists with assigning work to staff that are unassigned and making staffing recommendations as needed.
- When notified, ensuring all facilities engineering and other activities are properly documented such as: incident reports, illness/absence reports, infection reports, work injury reports, etc.
- Conducting preliminary investigations into facilities engineering problems and taking appropriate action as necessary.
- Participating actively on committees and in in-services and attending other meetings as requested.
- Maintains appropriate staff levels based on budget.
Utilizes Assigned Computer Programs to Perform Job Duties by:
- Demonstrating proficiency in utilization of relevant technologies including Active Staffer, Peoplesoft Financials, CMMS, BAS, etc., and maintains information in each system in an up-to-date manner.

- Expanding one's knowledge of Beacon Health System on an ongoing basis.
- Attending in-services and department meetings; also participating in continuing education and attending conferences as approved.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an associate degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited school and previous experience in facilities management and/or facility engineering; or minimum of three to five years facilities management and engineering experience in a hospital facility engineering environment.

- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of facilities engineering practices, policies, procedures and techniques to function as a resource to staff in the review and evaluation of facilities engineering services provided and in communication of pertinent feedback.
