Job Overview
The Instructor is responsible for designing and delivering high-quality, engaging instruction inPiano to youth participants. This position plays a key role in fostering artistic development, technical skill-building, and personal growth through structured lessons, rehearsals, and performances or project showcases. The Instructor supports program goals by providing mentorship, maintaining related equipment or instruments, and collaborating with staff to ensure a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment. This role may include off-site performances or events and requires flexibility, professionalism, and a passion for youth development through the arts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction & Classroom Delivery:
- Design and deliver high-quality, engaging instruction aligned with program goals and the developmental levels of students.
- Teach foundational through advanced concepts in music, performance, or media, fostering technical skill and artistic expression.
- Prepare lesson plans and lead rehearsals, workshops, or classes to build performance readiness.
- Promote creativity, discipline, and musical literacy through project-based and performance-based instruction.
- Utilize differentiated instruction to meet a variety of learning styles and abilities.
- Provide instruction in Piano, focusing on technique, theory, repertoire, and performance preparation.
- Encourage student engagement and critical thinking through collaborative and individual projects.
Program & Instructional Support:
- Support the implementation and development of curriculum and program goals in alignment with the organization’s vision.
- Help coordinate performances, exhibitions, or showcases, including repertoire or project selection and scheduling.
- Assist in maintaining and organizing instruments, media equipment, or materials to ensure safe and efficient use.
- Participate in event logistics, including equipment setup, breakdown, and transportation.
- Collaborate with staff on program integration and cross-disciplinary opportunities.
- Provide technical or instructional support specific to Piano (e.g., pedal technique, digital keyboard setup, sight-reading strategies, MIDI and DAW integration, or accompaniment coordination).
- Document student participation and progress through informal assessments, notes, or progress update
Youth Development & Student Engagement:
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages personal growth and social-emotional development.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting respect, collaboration, and a sense of community among students.
- Implement strategies that support student engagement, motivation, and health behavior in a group setting.
- Encourage students to express themselves creatively and build confidence through participation and teamwork.
- Recognize and celebrate individual achievement, promoting a growth mindset and self-confidence.
- Support the development of communication and problem-solving skills within the context of the specific discipline.
Professional Responsibilities & Collaboration:
- Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues, and site leadership.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and ongoing trainings as required.
- Support efforts to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all programming.
- Remain flexible and responsive to the needs of the program, including adjusting schedules and responsibilities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program implementation.

EDUCATION and REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in music, performing arts, media production, education, or related field preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise and practical experience in Piano through performance, teaching, or production work.
- Prior experience working with youth in educational, after-school, or community arts programs strongly preferred.
- Ability to teach students of varying ages and skill levels using inclusive, student-centered teaching practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Familiarity with relevant tools, techniques, or equipment (e.g., musical instruments, recording software, choreography methods, film/editing software).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for rehearsals, events, or performances as needed.
BACKGROUND CHECK/TESTING/CERTIFICATION:
- Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
- Must pass drug testing.
- Provide a clear TB test
- CPR/ First Aid Certification
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
