POSITION SUMMARY
MMP’s Mobility Training Department is seeking a full time energetic Transportation Mobility Specialist trainer to assist special needs individuals in utilizing public transportation. Competitive compensation package is included with this position. The Transportation Mobility Specialist (TMS) is responsible for educating participants with various disabilities about public transportation, utilizing a variety of training methods including both classroom and in-field settings. This is a field position where frequent travel is required throughout the county. Bilingual skills in Spanish are a prerequisite for the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities listed herein are representative of the expectations for this position, which include but are not limited to the following:
- Educate participants to safely utilize public transit resources in a variety of settings
- Promote MMP programs and /or services through participation at various public events or meetings/outreach events
- Complete marketing infield and outfield to promote MMP programs and coordinate workshops
- Design and update group travel training workshop PowerPoints presentations
- Responsible for all group travel training workshops (booking, coordination, confirmations, performing, documentation)
- Ability to learn, understand, and teach the use of transit maps and schedules
- Must be able to work independently and constructively in a field environment with the ability to meet the commitments on project needs on a timely basis traveling throughout the county.
- Support the safety and well-being of participants at all times
- Capability to utilize MS Outlook to effectively calendar field assignments and all other work related activities
- Maintain ongoing effective communications with management, staff and other respective parties
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree, B.A. Degree, currently enrolled in 2 or 4 year college program with an emphasis on education, special education, kinesiology, social work, occupational or physical therapy, psychology or other human services related field with 3-5 years’experience of applicable experience working with seniors/individuals with disabilities
- Or High School diploma with 5 years of experience in directly related experience with seniors/individuals with disabilities
Minimum of 1 year of proven marketing/ networking experience.
1 year of public speaking/ familiarity with conducting workshops
Experience developing and using PowerPoint for presentations.
Specific project requirements may include bilingual skills - speaking, writing, and reading in English and Spanish
KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

- Common challenges faced by seniors in activities involving general mobility and the use of public transportation systems
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and other applicable local, state, and federal laws governing the provision of transportation services to individuals with disabilities
Abilities to:
- Learn, understand, and teach the use of transit maps and schedules
- Work independently and constructively in a field environment
- Be punctual and reliable to meet time commitments based on the needs of the projects
- Effectively communicate including proficiency in both oral and written forms
- Exercise excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Interact professionally with participants
- Give public presentations highly preferred
- Utilize computers and software including effective use of MS Office/Outlook
- Schedule/maintain an accurate and thorough electronic calendar
- Use various internet tools and apps such as Google Maps, Transit apps, Skype, and Remote Desktop
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid California driver’s license, vehicle insurance, good driving record and reliable transportation
- Certification in Adult CPR and First Aid (training will be provided)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to react and provide reasonable assistance to participants in the event of an emergency. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel mostly in the use of a computer keyboard and mouse; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, and otherwise transport and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision and depth perception in use of a computer, in driving, and in navigating public transportation systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those and employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Primary duties are carried out in the field with occasional work in an office environment; the position requires exposure to outside weather conditions.
