Systems Manager
Job description
As New Zealand’s Exchange, we are passionate about working with our customers and stakeholders to grow the markets NZX operates, which generate wealth integral to New Zealanders’ prosperity, and New Zealand companies getting ahead. To support the growth and development of our core markets business, and to ensure we are well connected to New Zealand investors, NZX owns Smart, New Zealand’s only issuer of Exchange Traded Funds, and manager of the SuperLife Workplace Savings scheme and SuperLife KiwiSaver scheme. NZX also provides wealth management services for New Zealand advisers via its Wealth Technologies business.
About the opportunitySmart is partway through a major technology transformation. We are moving our members to a new registry platform, and alongside it we are introducing a mobile app, a new website and digital tools, a CRM and contact centre, modern identity and a cloud data platform. Our legacy systems will keep running while further schemes migrate, before being fully decommissioned.
In the Systems Manager role, you'll own service delivery across both the legacy and new environments. That means keeping legacy stable and secure, reducing technical debt and operational risk, and making sure the new platforms are well supported, clearly owned and well run with our partners. It's a rare chance to run a complex legacy estate well while building the service model, practices and team that will run what replaces it.
Key responsibilities- Lead service delivery across legacy, SaaS, cloud and partner-supported platforms, keeping them stable, secure and recoverable.
- Lead and develop the systems support and DevOps team, including helping them build skills on the new platforms.
- Mature incident, problem, request and change management, including on-call, major incident processes and post-incident reviews.
- Manage key technology partners and their SLAs, with clear escalation paths and ownership.
- Own the backlog for fixing legacy issues, covering data quality, access controls, monitoring and documentation.
- Put support in place for new platforms as they go live: BAU handover, runbooks, monitoring and business procedures.
- Manage technology risk, IT controls, cyber security and audit activity.
- Plan and lead the safe decommissioning of legacy systems.
- Work with the Digital Development Manager and business owners on roadmaps, priorities and the change backlog.
We're looking for a pragmatic, methodical leader who brings calm structure to a complex environment. You're comfortable getting into the technical detail when it matters, and equally comfortable stepping back to set standards and shape the support model.
You manage risk deliberately: you can see what could go wrong, weigh it sensibly, and put controls in place without slowing delivery down. You're positive about change, and you see the move from legacy to cloud and SaaS as an opportunity rather than a threat.
You bring your team and the business with you through it. You hold partners to account constructively, communicate clearly with both technical and business audiences, and lead with honesty and ownership.
Above all, you get things done and leave systems, processes and people in better shape than you found them.
