Reporting to: Fleet Manager, Marine & Security

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day marine operations of assigned vessels, including navigation, mooring, deck and safety equipment, port arrivals/departures, ship-to-ship (STS) operations, and overall vessel condition.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient execution of cargo operations, including loading, discharging, grade changes, and tank preparation activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical Team on dry-docking specifications, planning, execution, and follow-up activities.
  • Manage and coordinate third-party vessel inspections, including SIRE, CDI, Port State Control (PSC), USCG, terminal, flag state, and other regulatory inspections.
  • Conduct vessel management inspections and internal audits, identifying areas for continuous improvement and verifying the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Review and evaluate vessel reports relating to navigation, safety, inspections, audits, near misses, incidents, and accidents, ensuring appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
  • Liaise with classification societies, oil majors, ship owners, suppliers, and relevant stakeholders to ensure vessels maintain full statutory and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor vessel documentation and record-keeping practices to ensure compliance with international regulations and company procedures.
  • Supervise planned and unplanned repairs, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes for officers and crew to enhance operational, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Conduct onboard safety, environmental, and security drills to assess preparedness and support the achievement of zero Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF).
  • Perform performance appraisals for officers and provide recommendations on development, promotion, and succession planning.
  • Interview and assess deck officers for recruitment, promotion, and deployment suitability.
  • Lead or participate in incident and accident investigations as assigned by Fleet Management, identifying root causes and preventive measures.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Holder of a valid Master Mariner Certificate of Competency.
  • Minimum sailing experience as a Master or Chief Officer on LPG and/or Ethylene vessels.
  • Strong understanding of maritime regulations, industry standards, and best practices governing vessel operations and management.
  • Technologically savvy with the ability to work effectively in a digital environment and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Shore-based experience is not required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on short notice and support a 24/7 operational environment when necessary.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop, enhance, and implement safe, efficient, and cost-effective vessel management processes.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
