Contracts Manager
Summary
The Contracts Manager is responsible for the overall administration and oversight of assigned customer contracts from award through completion and closeout. The position ensures that contract requirements are understood, documented, monitored, and appropriately communicated to internal teams.
This role serves as a senior technical resource for Contracts Administration and is expected to establish and maintain consistent contract administration practices across the organization. The Contracts Manager will review complex contractual matters, identify potential risks and compliance concerns, and provide recommendations to management and internal customers.
In addition to individual contract responsibilities, the Contracts Manager will manage and develop a team of up to five Contracts Administrators. This includes establishing priorities, reviewing work, providing ongoing training and mentorship, developing team capabilities, and ensuring that contract administration activities are completed accurately and timely.
The successful candidate will be a proactive problem solver who can balance attention to contractual detail with an understanding of business objectives. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Program Management, Finance, Operations, Business Development, executive leadership, and other internal customers.
Job Description andResponsibilities
Contract Administration & Compliance
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Contracts Administration and provide authoritative guidance on complex contract matters.
- Manage and administer assigned customer contracts from contract award through completion and closeout.
- Review contracts, modifications, solicitations, amendments, and other contractual documents to identify requirements, risks, obligations, and potential impacts to the company.
- Ensure contract requirements are accurately captured and communicated to appropriate internal customers.
- Monitor contract performance, funding, periods of performance, contract ceilings, option periods, deliverables, reporting requirements, and other key contractual milestones.
- Interpret and apply the FAR, applicable agency supplements, contract clauses, and customer-specific requirements.
- Review and provide guidance on contract modifications, including funding actions, changes to scope, periods of performance, labor categories, contract line items, and other contractual changes.
- Identify contractual risks, compliance concerns, and potential areas of financial or operational exposure and escalate appropriately.
- Support the development and implementation of standardized contract administration processes, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure contract files and records are complete, accurate, current, and maintained in accordance with company requirements.
- Support contract closeout activities and ensure required documentation and actions are completed timely.
Requirements
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to up to 5 Contracts Administrators.
- Establish priorities and workload assignments based on contract requirements, deadlines, and business needs.
- Review the work of Contracts Administrators for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and consistency.
- Provide ongoing training and coaching on contract administration practices, FAR requirements, contract interpretation, and company procedures.
- Develop the technical capabilities of Contracts Administrators through structured training, knowledge sharing, and hands-on mentoring.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex or unusual contract administration questions.
- Identify knowledge gaps and develop or recommend training to address them.
- Establish consistent standards and expectations for contract administration across the team.
- Provide performance feedback and participate in employee development and performance management activities.
Internal Customer Support
- Serve as a trusted Contracts Administration resource to Program Managers, Finance, Operations, and other internal customers.
- Translate complex contractual requirements into clear, actionable guidance.
- Partner with internal customers to identify contractual requirements and ensure compliance throughout contract performance.
- Participate in contract reviews, internal meetings, and other activities where contract administration expertise is required.
- Provide timely responses to contractual questions and assist in resolving contract-related issues.
- Maintain effective relationships with internal customers while appropriately balancing business objectives with contractual compliance.
Process Improvement & Organizational Support
- Identify opportunities to improve contract administration processes, systems, documentation, and controls.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of contract administration procedures, templates, guidance, and training materials.
- Promote consistency and standardization in contract administration practices across the organization.
- Support implementation and optimization of contract management systems and related tools.
- Assist leadership with reporting, metrics, and management visibility into contract status, compliance, risks, and upcoming actions.
- Stay current on changes to the FAR, agency supplements, government contracting practices, and other requirements affecting contract administration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Contracts Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in U.S. Government contract administration, with significant experience independently managing complex contracts.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in Contracts Administration.
- Strong working knowledge of the FAR and applicable agency supplements, particularly as they relate to contract administration and performance.
- Experience with a variety of U.S. Government contract types, including Firm-Fixed-Price, Time-and-Materials, Cost-Reimbursement, and/or Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity contracts.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting contracts, modifications, solicitations, contract clauses, and other contractual documents.
- Experience administering contract modifications, funding actions, option periods, periods of performance, contract line items, and other contractual changes.
- Experience identifying and communicating contractual risks and compliance requirements.
- Previous experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, training, or supervision of Contracts Administrators or similar professionals.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple contracts, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and appropriately escalate contractual issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM), Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM), or similar.
- Experience supporting small businesses and/or 8(a) government contractors.
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar government contracting systems.
- Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems.
- Experience developing and delivering contracts training.
- Experience establishing or improving Contracts Administration processes and internal controls.
- Experience supporting government contract audits, reviews, or compliance assessments.

Salary Range: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00
PhysicalRequirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have enough mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. May include lifting weigh up to thirty (30) pounds, as necessary.
Location/Work Schedule: Primary location in Huntsville, Alabama
This position is currently a Hybrid Remote position with occasional travel, onsite, to the Huntsville, Alabama headquarters office for training and to support business needs when required.
It is expected for the Contracts Manager to be available during normal operating business hours and have a dedicated workspace. Must be available to support multiple client companies across all time zones.
Salary Range: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00
