Paint Assistant Manager
Job description
JOB SUMMARY
The Paint Specialist / Supervisor / Asst. Manager is responsible for operating and monitoring automated robotic painting systems to ensure automotive interior parts meet strict customer requirements for appearance, color, gloss, and adhesion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot automated painting robots (Yaskawa highly preferred) and related application systems (spray guns, pumps, nozzles).
- Perform and optimize robot teaching, including 3D offline teaching and path programming, to ensure consistent paint coverage and film thickness.
- Monitor critical paint process parameters such as viscosity, temperature, humidity, airflow, booth pressure, flash times, and oven curing conditions.
- Identify and resolve paint defects including runs, sags, orange peel, dry spray, dirt/contamination, pinholes, and color/gloss variation.
- Ensure proper preparation, masking, and handling of interior parts before and after painting to prevent damage or contamination.
Requirements
SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS
- Required: Hands-on experience with automated robotic painting operations, specifically robot teaching and path programming (Yaskawa and 3D teaching experience strongly preferred).
- Strong understanding of paint application processes, fluid delivery systems, and automotive interior appearance requirements (color, gloss, texture).
- Ability to troubleshoot paint defects and adjust process parameters (viscosity, film thickness, oven temp) independently.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent; Technical certification in robotics, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
- 2 to 5+ years of progressive experience in spray painting, robotic painting, or surface finishing within the automotive industry
