Woolpert is hiring a Temporary HR Officer (5-Month Contract) to join our dynamic Human Resources team at our Johannesburg office. This position reports to the Senior HR Manager and is responsible for providing hands-on recruitment and HR administrative support. Qualified candidates will be experienced, self-motivated, able to take ownership of assigned work, apply sound judgement, and work independently with limited supervision throughout the duration of this 5-month temporary assignment.We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide reliable support across talent acquisition and general HR administration for the duration of the temporary assignment.
  • Manage assigned recruitment and HR administrative tasks accurately, professionally, and within agreed timelines.
  • Work independently with limited supervision, escalating only complex, sensitive, or exceptional matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure employee and candidate information is handled in line with company requirements and applicable legislation.

Talent acquisition support:

  • Coordinate recruitment activities from approved vacancy through to offer and onboarding handover.
  • Draft and post job advertisements, screen applications against agreed criteria, and prepare candidate shortlists for review.
  • Conduct initial candidate screening calls and communicate professionally with candidates throughout the recruitment process.
  • Schedule interviews, prepare interview packs, coordinate assessments where required, and obtain interview feedback from hiring managers.
  • Complete reference and background-check administration and prepare offer documentation using approved templates.
  • Maintain accurate candidate records, recruitment trackers, vacancy status reports, and Applicant Tracking System information.

HR administration:

  • Prepare routine HR letters, employment documentation, forms, and employee correspondence using approved templates.
  • Maintain accurate electronic employee files and HR records, including filing, document control, data capture, and audit readiness.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding administration, including document collection, induction coordination, system requests, checklists, and relevant notifications.
  • Assist with routine employee queries, leave and benefits administration, HR reporting, and follow-up with employees and managers.
  • Track outstanding HR actions and documentation and follow up proactively to ensure completion.
  • Provide general administrative support to the HR team and assist with ad hoc HR projects as required.
  • Handle personal information with discretion and comply with company policies, POPIA, and applicable South African employment legislation

What You Will Bring:

  • Minimum of three years’ practical HR experience, including exposure to talent acquisition and general HR administration.
  • A relevant HR qualification is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage routine HR and recruitment work independently with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of South African employment legislation, recruitment practices, employee recordkeeping, confidentiality, and POPIA requirements.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications; experience with an HR information system, Applicant Tracking System, or recruitment platform is advantageous.
  • Experience preparing HR documentation, maintaining trackers, coordinating interviews, and supporting onboarding processes.

  • Confident working with employees, candidates, hiring managers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and willing to support a broad range of HR priorities.
