Description
The successful candidate will assist the head coach in the coaching and organization of a competitive NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse program in the Atlantic-10 conference. This position may work with the offense, defense, or other position groups, depending on skillset and experience.
The position responsibilities will include teaching and coaching student-athletes for successful competition; supporting student-athletes’ academic success; recruiting prospective students; and will focus on administrative responsibilities for the Hobart Lacrosse program around travel, practice scheduling, etc.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Coaching:
o teach student-athletes all related principles and rules of the sport
o assist in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of practice and game plans
o operate digital platforms to develop training, practice and game plans
o maintain an exemplary standard of conduct, which reflects the highest level of professionalism and good judgment
o be knowledgeable of and compliant with all institutional, department, NCAA and A-10 conference policies, rules and regulations
- Counseling and Advisement of Student-Athletes:
o develop and maintain effective communication with student-athletes
o reinforce academic success as a priority
o encourage student-athletes to foster a positive relationship with faculty, deans and staff
- Administrative Responsibilities:
o Develop game, practice, and recruiting calendars for Hobart lacrosse coaching staff and student-athletes.
o Schedule facilities, participate in practice planning and prepare the team room for daily use.
o Set up and tear down practice and game facilities.
o Plan the team travel schedule to include arranging bus, hotel, and food accommodations for the Hobart lacrosse team for all away contests.
o Track statistics during practice and/or games.
o Organize the structure and execution of film sessions for practice and games.
o Operate the video software and prepare practice and game films for coaching staff as requested.
- Recruiting:
o effectively recruit prospective student-athletes under the direction of the head coach and consistent with the Colleges’ mission
o Coordinate on-campus official and unofficial recruiting visits.
o Develop itineraries for prospective student-athletes and their family for on-campus visits.
o maintain the recruiting electronic database
- Community Engagement/Fundraising
o maintain a positive relationship with interested constituents (e.g. youth groups, civic organizations, media)
o develop a positive relationship with Hobart Lacrosse alumni and parents
- Other duties as assigned, including department-wide tasks and responsibilities.
o This includes game day management responsibilities, typically for Hobart football.
Other Information:
This is a full-time, 10-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours’ time period. Evening and weekend work are required. Annual salary is $52,855.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of four years of men’s lacrosse playing and/or coaching experience is required. Competence with technology resources and a current U.S. driver’s license are vital to fulfilling the responsibilities of this position. CPR and First Aid certification required (may be obtained at HWS).
