Job Description
Davis Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking part-time Prevention Instructors to facilitate evidence-based prevention education classes for adults, youth, or families in community settings throughout Davis County. Instructors may teach in schools, community centers, or other public venues, and work in coordination with the Communities That Care (CTC) coalitions. This position is funded through grants and focuses on delivering high-quality prevention programming to reduce risk factors and build protective factors in the community.
This job posting is to hire instructors for the Catch My Breath program.
Primary Job Duties
The Program Instructor Is responsible for performing the following essential job functions at the expected level and within the expected timeframes:
- Deliver evidence-based prevention curricula with fidelity to program model and training standards
- Prepare materials and content prior to class sessions
- Engage participants through interactive and supportive instruction
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
- Communicate effectively with co-facilitators, program coordinators, and site contacts
- Track attendance, collect program evaluation data, and submit required documentation
- Attend mandatory training sessions and periodic staff meetings
- Commit to teaching all days outlined in the program schedules and adhere to timelines
- Other duties and responsibilities and needed and assigned.
In addition to the essential job functions outline above, the following responsibilities are assigned to the Catch My Breath instructors:
- Teach CATCH My BREATH in English to youth in a school based setting. CATCH My BREATH is an evidence-based youth vaping prevention program for youth. For more information on the program visit: http://cathc.org/program/vaping- prevention/
- Classes are taught in one 1 hour blocks for the junior high and high school or four 30 min sessions for the elementary schools alignment with the schools class schedule.
- Instructors are required to cover both sessions for each class they are assigned. Instructors are asked to report to work 20min before schedule class time to find rooms and set up class materials.
- Instructors are paid $20 per hour to conduct the program and for 30 minutes of preparation prior to the session (a total of 2.5 hours per session).

Compensation
The Catch My Breath Program Instructors are compensated $20.00 per hour to conduct the program and for one hour of preparation prior to the session (a total of 2.5 hours per session).
Location
Classes are held at elementary, junior high, and high schools throughout Davis County, Utah.
Schedule
Classes will be held throughout Davis County schools on Mondays through Friday according to the assigned schedule.
Required Experience
Education/Licensure/Certification
- Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in social work, education, psychology, or other social science program.
Experience Required
Preference will be given to applicants who have previous experience with teaching, health promotion, or a background in a mental-health or human development related field.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Skills/Abilities
The Program Instructor must possess the following skills and abilities:
- Strong presentation and group facilitation skills.
- Effective communicator and collaborator.
- Experience working with youth ages 11-18 years old.
- The ability to be flexible with individuals and activities.
- A willingness to prepare before the session in order to lead effectively.
- Comfortable teaching about substance use and prevention and facilitating the program as designed and outlined in the manual.
- A commitment to facilitate classes identified on schedule.
- A willingness to fill out any reporting requested.
- Spanish speaking is a bonus.
The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol; therefore, making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample. Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.
Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.
