Wood is recruiting a dynamic and result-driven Construction Manager with strong focus on work in the Surat Basin of western Queensland.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, the successful applicant will be accountable for the oversight of all construction & commissioning strategy execution; including safety performance, planning, schedule, cost and delivery of all field works within the contract.

The role will also be responsible to engage with Client project subcontract and associated anciliary 3rd party service providers including Wood direct labour to ensure project integration and coordination, and be accountable for co-ordinating head office, field industrial relations, resourcing, planning, reporting, site performance and continuous improvement for construction and commissioning field teams to successfully execute field works in accordance with the contract.

  • Able to manage 70-100 Client & Wood 3rd Party and Wood Direct construction and commissioning personnel covering professional, trade and direct sub contractors
  • Ensure site execution in line with the respective principal and 3rd party contract terms and conditions
  • Demonstrates effective delegation and team development with a focus on productivity and project integration
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage uncertainty to achieve a balance in the competing demands of the business
  • Work behaviours enhance the Company’s reputation
  • Actively develops relationships with customers and WOOD entities via regular contact and involvement. Demonstrates ability to develop long and short term service relationships that are cost efficient
  • Ensures that the construction and commissioning team is operating within the WOOD and client processes by conducting regular audits, reviews and compliance audits within projects
  • Demonstrates sound, fact-based decision making, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients and contractors to help teams achieve goals
  • Project Change Management
  • Able to understand changing trends and developments within Industrial Relations and communicates their impact to the business

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in construction management / supervision and general project engineering in oil and gas industry
  • Team leader demonstrating focus, enthusiasm, sensitivity, mentoring and coaching qualities
  • Proven experience in the management of office, site construction, and commissioning teams
  • Experience in managing client and Wood direct 3rd Party Support Contractors, including productivity performance, safety & quality outputs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates effective delegation and team development with a focus on productivity and project integration
  • Ability to influence and challenge others to ensure project delivery aligned with the Wood project execution organisation and Wood policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and coordinate multiple crews in various field locations
