Job Summary
The Hospital Manager of Accounting is responsible for assisting the Controller in overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department in a healthcare setting. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, compliance with regulatory standards, and the preparation of timely financial reports. The Manager will supervise accounting staff, manage budgets, and provide financial insights to support operational and strategic decision making.
Essential Functions
- Oversee the general ledger and ensure timely month-end and year-end closings.
- Prepare and review financial statements, variance analyses, and performance reports.
- Monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, hospital policies, and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
- Manage hospital budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department leaders.
- Reconcile accounts, including bank statements, patient billing, and insurance payments.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and performance evaluations.

- Implement improvements in accounting systems and processes to enhance efficiency.
- Ensure timely filing of tax documents and other regulatory financial reports.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Comprehensive accounting and financial reporting knowledge.
- Ability to communicate well with all levels of personnel.
- Excellent computer skills including SAP, spreadsheets and word processing.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Licenses/Certification
- CPA preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience required
- At least 2 years in a healthcare or hospital environment preferred.
