REPORTS TO: Program Manager, Rachel’s Night Shelter & Rachel’s Women’s Center

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

TIME COMMITMENT: Full Time. Evening availability required; Friday-Tuesday; 2:30 PM to 11:15 PM

SALARY: $20.50-$21.75 per hour DOE

BENEFITS: Medical, dental, vision. Prescription drugs, life insurance, case-balance pension

POSITION SUMMARY:

The
Caseworker Coach I evening shift is an essential member of Rachel’s Night Shelter Team responsible for ensuring participants are served in clean, safe environments. Supports residents in meeting realistic attainable goals that lead to obtaining safe, stable housing. Develops a strong working knowledge of community resources and establishes collaborative working relationships with colleagues within and outside of Catholic Charities. Motivating, supporting, and guiding the people we serve is a shared responsibility for every member of the team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Welcome and orient new shelter guests; complete initial intakes, explain program routines and review the safety-focused terms of service
  • Provides a consistent presence in the facility, remaining mindful of residents’ physical, emotional and psychological safety
  • Prepares meal supplies and assists with serving meals as needed. Oversee clean up after meals and ensure supplies are fully stocked for the following day
  • Assist participants in developing life skills (e.g. how to use showers, laundry facilities, maintain the environment, resolve conflicts, navigate social service delivery systems, etc.)
  • Supports residents in following through on established goals, checks in with participants after off-site appointments, overcoming barriers to success and identifies possible solutions. Assists with problem-solving
  • Keep supervisor apprised of issues, problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by residents
  • Documents services provided, maintain sign-in logs and other record-keeping processes and documents significant events in shift email notes
  • When applicable, facilitate participants’ access to technology to meet with internal CC and external service providers
  • Fosters a trauma-informed, safety-focused culture within Rachel’s Promise Center for Women and Children
  • Develop a comprehensive base of knowledge of county-wide resources that address the needs of people experiencing homelessness. Maintains current knowledge about community resources.
  • Participate in case management, training conferences, and program monthly meetings as scheduled.
  • Works collaboratively with other Catholic Charities Homeless Services team members. This includes briefing the next shift team about events occurring overnight shift before leaving the building.
  • Establishes and nurtures collaborative relationships with colleagues from other agencies providing similar or complementary services.
  • Documents contacts with residents in files and Clarity HMIS and may include entering information into CES (Coordinated Entry System for housing placement)
  • Completes and submits all required monthly reports and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in Human Services, social or behavioral sciences or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum one year of experience serving people experiencing homelessness, living with substance use disorders, and/or mental illness
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn and grow
  • Well-developed listening skills
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required, must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Successful completion of a live scan background clearance
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to service delivery. Prior knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Housing First approaches to service delivery.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient with database software including Clarity HMIS.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.

  • Successful completion of a background check and TB Screening. Current CPR and First Aid training or the ability to complete training.
  • Willing and able to obtain a Food Handler Certificate

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is also required to sit and work at a computer. May need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
