We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to fill the role of Senior Director, Integrated Supply Chain for our Space and Mission Systems (SMS) Sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing ~$1 billion in procured volume across multiple business areas and locations. This is a high-visibility role that requires a deep understanding of supply chain best practices, both operationally and strategically.

The Director III, Integrated Supply Chain will lead a team of over 300 supply chain professionals and work closely with stakeholders across the organization. The successful candidate will effectively leverage their refined leadership skills to implement innovative supply chain strategies that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with regulations while also aligning supply chain strategies with overall business goals. This role requires outstanding leadership prowess, the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, and a proven ability to drive innovation through digital transformation and sustainability initiatives. Functions of direct ownership include subcontracting, category management, procurement, compliance, new business and program execution, inventory control, warehousing management, logistics, material management, and respective business processes, tools, and training.

This leader will lead by influence and partner with supply chain peers across the BAE Systems, Inc. enterprise with an extended global engagement. Additionally, they will hold a position on the regional and global supply chain councils.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

The Integrated Supply Chain team has a direct impact on program success, acting as a critical chain that links the end-to-end material flow together. Our organization helps propel us forward and achieve true mission partnership.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve supply chain efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with regulations while aligning supply chain strategies with overall business goals.
  • Develop and implement a supply chain strategy that promotes digitization, automation, and results in a highly connected, transparent, and responsive supply chain organization.
  • Develop centralization / decentralization approaches that create supply chain execution efficiency in support of commercial spacecraft bus and payload product development.
  • Expand profit margins and improve business cash flow through innovative operational effectiveness practices.
  • Support the development of “make vs. buy” strategies that synergize the capabilities and capacities of the broader BAE Systems enterprise as well as the global supply base.
  • Drive accountability and operational excellence through the deployment and management of comprehensive supplier and subcontract management methods.
  • Develop and deploy a supply chain risk management approach that left-shifts risk identification, quantification, and mitigation during the proposal lifecycle to minimize the impact to program execution and ensure business continuity.
  • Drive the maturity of analytical tools and reports to effectively manage supply chain performance across the sector.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent within the supply chain organization.
  • Drive the sector’s sourcing and purchasing strategy including commodity management, vendor selection and evaluation, contract management, competitive sourcing, and material planning.
  • Increase the technical competencies of the supply chain organization to effectively manage an increasingly complex supplier base.
  • Maintain and enhance SMS procurement systems and processes to be compliant with stringent regulatory requirements in a primarily defense-based business.
  • Develop and support change management and integration across a large supply chain organization in multiple locations across the US.
  • Work effectively across several key functions, including understanding and interpreting technical requirements and impacts of change, as well as manufacturing processes and workflows.
  • Develop, implement, and direct policies, practices, and procedures in accordance with federal, commercial, state/local, and/or international procurement regulations.
  • Approve and present complex basis of estimates and risk assessments for prime contract proposals.
  • Leverage excellent negotiating skills, with the ability to negotiate price, scope, term & conditions and prime contract flow down.
  • Assume accountability for meeting financial targets and supplier base performance.
  • Hold themselves and others accountable to meeting program expectations and deliverables.
  • Develop and cultivate mutually beneficial supplier relationships that ensure continuity of supply while maintaining unquestionable integrity.
  • Promote an internal and external supplier environment where continuous improvement is the goal and annual procurement savings, and inventory reduction are achieved.
  • Manage and mentor a team of managers across multiple sites.
  • Develop performance metrics and drive initiatives to ensure goals are met on schedule.
  • Work cross-functionally to forge collaborative relationships with engineering, contracts, legal, finance, program management, and operations leadership to drive best practices.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and material control systems to reduce costs, streamline procedures, and implement solutions.
  • Lead major contract negotiations and provide recommendations that will improve contract terms, conditions and procedures.
  • Proactively drive the continual search for qualified suppliers in all areas to ensure costs are appropriately aligned.
  • Maintain an approved government purchasing system (CPSR) and be responsible for compliance to all FAR/DFARs regulations and requirements.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the sector and function within regional and global supply chain councils.
  • Serve as an active member and participate in Global Supply Chain Council and supporting global strategic initiatives, including the advancement of supply chain principles, digitalization efforts, competitiveness, and developing teams and talent.
  • Align and support the implementation of functional objectives and cascade within the perimeter of control
  • Lead sector supply chain strategies and support related enterprise transformation initiatives
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, stakeholders, and Supply Chain Leaders ensuring that contracts and agreements are negotiated to achieve best-in-class terms and conditions
  • Analyze market trends, supplier performance, and industry best practices to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement
  • Develop, manage, and monitor department budgets, forecasts, and metrics to ensure operational expenses are controlled.
  • Ensure compliance with and contribute to the creation/management of company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

Short-Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.

Long-Term Incentive: Subject to business and individual performance, and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in a long-term incentive compensation plan.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 12 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • More than 10 years in a manufacturing industry, preferably within an aerospace/defense, automotive, or other highly regulated industry.
  • At least 5 years of managing and developing subcontracting professionals; experience managing other subcontract managers is preferable.
  • A demonstrated bias for action and a desire for continuous improvement.
  • Broad discipline experience in a multi-plant supply chain environment.
  • Excellent leadership skills, both as a people manager and a transformational leader.
  • Proven ability to navigate a complex business environment with a high tolerance for change and ambiguity.
  • Ability to communicate vision clearly and be a driver of change.
  • Possess an agile leadership style with the ability to adjust one’s approach to fit the situation as a driver, coach, mentor, or teacher.
  • Experienced in the entire life cycle of prime and subcontract contracting, from proposal phase to contract closeout.
  • Proven track record of delivering efficiencies and process improvements in supply chain settings.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and develop strategic recommendations.
  • Solid business acumen and understanding of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Broad global aptitude and experience working across a multinational/multicultural setting.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or other advanced degree.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) designation.
  • Experience with supply chain technology, including source-to-pay, contract lifecycle management, and risk analytics tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of supply chain risk management principles with experience in mitigation strategies.
  • Background and working knowledge of space industry technologies and defense industrial base.
  • Demonstrated expertise in highly complex business procedures and strategies across the acquisition lifecycle, specifically within the Department of Defense and NASA construct.
  • Well-versed in the following types of contracts: Commercial, DOD Cost type, Firm Fixed Price, and Services Contracts.
  • Fluent with ITAR, FAR, DFAR regulations.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $196296 - $333704

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
