Botanica, The Wichita Gardens is a botanical garden located in the Riverside neighborhood of Wichita, KS. Botanica opened in 1987 and hosts thousands of guests each year who visit for regular garden displays and major events including the annual tulip display and holiday light show. The gardens total 20 developed acres with more land to expand in the future. The organization depends heavily on support from volunteers, with whom employees and the public interact with frequently.
This is a seasonal hourly, 25-30 hours per week, position to begin September 8, 2025.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
This is a manual work position that provides various facility support services for event setup, preparation, installation, including general maintenance and repairs of exhibition materials. The position reports to the Facilities Tech Manager.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
- Responsible for all set up requirements for fall and winter events.
- Perform general security tasks including inspecting installations and equipment.
- Make minor repairs on building or equipment and report needed major repairs to supervisor.
- Complete daily installation and maintenance check lists.
- Perform cleaning activities of installations ensuring functionality and beauty of installations.
- Provide general customer service support to visitors.

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
- Knowledge of electronic materials and equipment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to acquire within a reasonable period of time, knowledge of the procedures, tools, equipment and materials used in the installation and maintenance process for major events.
- Ability to work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed
- Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist
- Ability to safely operate golf carts and maintenance vehicles
- Ability to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditions
- Ability to lift and carry bulky items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to be continuously performing tasks that require one to push, pull, climb (ladders and in and out of vehicular equipment), bend, twist, reach, stand, and walk about (up to a half mile at a time) for most of an eight-hour shift
- Ability to communicate effectively
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory evaluation of a criminal record check.
