UHS is located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.
Position Overview:
University High School is currently seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and team-oriented Assistant Coach for the Girls Varsity Volleyball program. The successful candidate will bring a passion for the sport, a commitment to educational-based athletics, and a sincere interest in mentoring student-athletes. This part-time, seasonal position is responsible for supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of the program—from practice planning and match preparation to mentorship and team development.
The ideal candidate models humility, integrity, and professionalism while fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and joy. This role emphasizes character development, collaboration, and a love for the game.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach with daily practices, team meetings, and match preparation 5–6 days per week during the season.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of dynamic, challenging, and engaging training sessions.
- Model and reinforce a culture rooted in respect, accountability, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
- Support student-athletes during matches, tournaments, senior celebrations, and CIF/NCS playoff competition.
- Collaborate with athletic department staff, including trainers, equipment managers, and facilities personnel, to meet team needs.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all University High School, Bay Counties League–West, and North Coast Section rules and policies.
- Provide supervision and guidance to student-athletes at all team functions, including travel, warm-ups, and post-match activities.
- Support and document injury protocols, including proper reporting and follow-up for injured athletes.
- Participate in athletic department meetings and contribute to the ongoing development of the volleyball program.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Prior coaching experience at the club, high school, or collegiate level.
- Deep understanding of the fundamentals and strategies of competitive volleyball.
- Ability to demonstrate and participate in drills when needed.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with student-athletes in an educational or youth development setting.
- Ability to create a positive, structured, and fun training environment for a wide range of skill levels.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to the season).
