Overview: Vintage Modern is seeking a Quality Systems Manager to bring automotive manufacturing best practices to our paint and body facility. Our paint team consists of exceptional craftsmen and artists who excel at their craft but need structured processes to achieve sustainable excellence. This role is critical in establishing data-driven quality systems, implementing root cause analysis, and creating the documentation infrastructure necessary for continuous improvement and scalability.
The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence, transforming reactive problem-solving into proactive process improvement through systematic documentation, metrics tracking, and accountability structures.
Core Mission: Transform our paint and body operations from reactive to proactive by establishing and maintaining comprehensive quality tracking systems, documentation processes, and accountability structures that drive continuous improvement and unlock production capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Metrics & Data Management:
- Establish and maintain comprehensive quality tracking systems for all paint and body operations
- Create standardized defect classification systems specific to paint and body work
- Track and analyze defect trends by vehicle, technician, process stage, and defect type
- Develop visual management tools and dashboards for real-time performance monitoring
- Implement data-driven decision making through systematic metrics analysis
- Generate actionable insights from quality data to drive process improvements
Process Documentation & Standardization:
- Create, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all paint and body processes
- Document best practices and proven techniques currently residing in craftsmen's expertise
- Establish version control and change management systems for all documentation
- Ensure process documentation is accessible, current, and actively used by technicians
- Transform tribal knowledge into repeatable, teachable processes
Quality Alert & CAPA Management:
- Implement formal quality alert system for rapid issue identification and resolution
- Create and manage Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) processes
- Assign clear ownership with "who owns what by when" accountability
- Track resolution effectiveness and prevent issue recurrence
- Establish closed-loop feedback systems to verify countermeasure effectiveness
- Drive root cause analysis culture vs. symptom-fixing mentality
Accountability & Performance Tracking:
- Establish clear performance metrics for individuals, teams, and processes
- Create transparency through regular reporting and visual management
- Track rework assignments and link to original quality issues
- Monitor cycle times, first-time quality rates, and throughput metrics
- Implement incentive tracking systems aligned with quality and efficiency goals
Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Serve as liaison between paint/body operations and final assembly
- Coordinate with quality, production, and management teams
- Facilitate knowledge transfer from headquarters' best practices
- Ensure alignment between facilities on quality standards and processes
Continuous Improvement Leadership:
- Identify and quantify improvement opportunities through data analysis
- Lead implementation of process improvements and track their effectiveness
- Establish regular review cycles for metrics, processes, and performance
- Create culture of accountability through transparent measurement and reporting
- Drive transition from reactive firefighting to proactive prevention
Reporting & Communication:
- Prepare comprehensive weekly quality reports with actionable insights
- Create month-end analysis highlighting trends, achievements, and opportunities
- Develop clear visual communications for all organizational levels
- Maintain audit-ready documentation for all quality and process systems

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field; equivalent experience considered
- 3+ years of experience in quality systems, manufacturing documentation, or process improvement
- Strong analytical skills with ability to transform data into actionable insights
- Experience with CAPA systems, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Excellent communication skills to work with both craftsmen and management
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and quality management systems
- Understanding of automotive manufacturing and/or paint processes preferred
- Change management skills to drive cultural transformation
- Self-starter capable of building systems from the ground up
