YOUR FUTURE TEAM
As part of TCEQ’s Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.
This position is a member of our Occupational Licensing and Registration Division.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Provides complex administrative support for the section manager and staff, including: scheduling meetings, providing meeting notes, purchasing of goods and services, and timekeeping. Provides contract management support and coordinates new or renewal computer-based testing (CBT) contracts and serves as the project coordinator for CBT support to existing sites and the Regional Offices.
- Answers and screens phone calls, routes to appropriate staff, takes messages, and/or provides basic program information; greets and assists visitors.
- Provides information to customers related to basic occupational licensing questions. Responds to or distributes email proxy inquiries for response. Serves as the division email proxy administrator. Updates PWS and customer addresses.
- Coordinates the section’s travel authorizations, including: creating, processing, and tracking travel requests and vouchers; verifying budget availability and reconciling travel expenditures in the Budget Accounting and Monitoring System (BAMS); and communicating with staff and Agency Travel Unit to resolve travel-related issues.
Qualifications
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience answering, screening, and/or routing telephone calls.
- Data entry experience with attention to details or following standard operating procedures.
- Experience providing administrative support, including filing, planning, organizing, and/or scheduling meetings.
- Experience using payroll or timesheet software; or entering employees' time into a timesheet system.
- Experience arranging and/or booking travel.
- Experience with purchasing goods/services and/or working with contracts.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard senior high school or its equivalent plus five years of full-time experience providing administrative support in an office setting.
*Fifteen semester hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each six months of the required experience with a maximum substitution of four years.
OR
Two years as an Administrative Assistant IV at TCEQ.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Administrative Assistant V state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Administrative Assistant V series.
Work Schedule
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Occupational Licensing and Registration Division.
