As part of the commissioners’ office, you would support the commissioners as they establish overall agency direction and policy and make their final determinations on contested permitting and enforcement matters. See details about what we do.
This position is a member of our Office of Chief Clerk Division.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Assist and support the Deputy of the Office of the Chief Clerk (OCC) of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Provide administrative support to Deputy Director; coordinate and monitor the administrative functions of the office to include submitting and tracking personnel actions and necessary paperwork for promotions, salary enhancements and separations; maintaining the annual budget; researching, tracking and making purchases; maintaining records of pay for division employees; assisting with timekeeping matters; and entering travel authorizations and vouchers as needed.
- Collect, organize, and prepare materials in response to requests for public information maintained by OCC. Conduct research and prepare other administrative reports, studies, and projects.
- Plan, organize, monitor, and track work assignments so that the following are maintained at the division level: correspondence; telephone coverage; filing systems; records; division meetings; office projects; office processes; and IT needs. Provide training on administrative functions.
- Represent the Deputy in public meetings and before the Commission; and facilitate public meetings, hearings and/or stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience coordinating workflow.
- Experience with budgeting and purchasing.
- Experience with public speaking and/or facilitation of meetings.
- Experience working on public information requests.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s Degree and two years of full-time experience working in an office environment.
OR
Three years of full-time experience performing supervisory, managerial, professional or technical work which must include: analysis of work problems having an administrative aspect and interpretation of complex written material; or planning, organizing, and coordinating requirements for support services or program operations where a wide range of demands are involved, including interpretation of complex written material.
OR
Graduation from a standard senior high school or its equivalent plus seven years of full-time experience in an administrative capacity*.
Fifteen semester hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each six months of the required experience with a maximum substitution of four years.

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Executive Assistant II state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Executive Assistant II series.
WORK SCHEDULE
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m, fully in-office.
