Design and Planning Engineer – Electrical
The Design and Planning Engineer – Electrical will be responsible for coordinating and managing the design, planning, procurement and construction activities associated with electrical projects. The role involves reviewing drawings, specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and project requirements; coordinating shop drawings, material approvals, RFIs, technical submissions and design clarifications; and ensuring that electrical works are planned and executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable standards, quality requirements and project schedules.
The Engineer will coordinate with consultants, clients, suppliers, subcontractors and site teams to resolve technical issues, monitor project progress, identify delays and critical activities, and ensure the timely availability of materials and engineering deliverables. The role will also support quantity take-offs, cost control, variation assessments, value engineering, testing and commissioning, and project handover documentation.
Responsibilities
• Review and coordinate electrical drawings, specifications, BOQs, project requirements and contract documents.
- Coordinate the preparation, review and submission of shop drawings, material submittals, technical submissions, RFIs and design clarifications.
- Coordinate with consultants, clients, suppliers, subcontractors and site teams to resolve design and technical issues.
- Plan and coordinate electrical construction activities in line with approved project schedules and construction programmes.
- Monitor project progress and identify delays, constraints, critical activities and potential risks.
- Coordinate procurement requirements and ensure the timely availability of electrical materials, equipment and technical information.
- Prepare and review quantity take-offs, material requirements and BOQs.
- Assist with cost control, variation assessments, value engineering and commercial evaluations.
- Ensure that electrical works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes and standards, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with site teams to ensure the proper sequencing and integration of electrical works with other MEP and civil works.
- Support testing, commissioning, inspection and rectification activities.
- Assist in preparing project progress reports, technical documentation, as-built drawings and handover documentation.
- Candidate Profile
- • A degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of five years’ relevant experience in electrical construction projects.
- Experience in electrical building services, commercial, industrial, infrastructure or similar construction projects would be an advantage.
- Good knowledge of electrical design, construction practices, project planning and coordination.
- Practical experience in BOQ preparation, quantity take-offs, material procurement and technical submittals.
- Experience in coordinating shop drawings, RFIs, material approvals and consultant/client requirements.
- Knowledge of testing, commissioning and project handover procedures.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
- A good understanding of applicable electrical standards, codes, specifications and quality requirements.
