Join our team of Crew Dispatchers who dispatch Train, Engine and Yard crews to their job assignments! Crew Dispatchers assure prompt and professional handling of Train, Engine and Yard crew inquiries, requests and problem resolution. We are powered by our people, will you join our team?

Accountabilities

  • Adhere to labor agreement and computer assisted calling procedures
  • Work in a professional environment and handle multiple internal customer interactions via phone, email and internal instant messaging; De-escalate demanding customer service calls and ensure that issues are handled appropriately
  • Coordinate work with corridor managers, train dispatchers and field managers under the supervision of a manager
  • Manage job vacancies and assign bulletins including applications, assignments and yard markup, where applicable
  • Generate reports and maintain records and files as needed
  • Deal with competing interests for available crew resources and look for solutions to daily issues while working as a member of a team
  • Assist in training employees in crew dispatch practices
  • Take ownership of demanding situations and work to find the optimal solution for UPRR and the individuals involved
  • Cooperate on requests for information from other departments on crew management services related questions
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle controversy
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
  • Able to read, understand, interpret and evaluate technical and non-technical written material to make decisions, answer questions, and provide input to others
  • Able to accurately record information on forms without clerical errors and prepare short concise documents
  • Able to learn and recall new material and work methods after a short or long period of time
  • Able to logically evaluate information to determine an appropriate course of action for resolving a problem. Strong multi-tasking skills are a necessity

Preferred
  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level
  • Exhibit the following: strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly in person and by phone
  • Able to logically evaluate information to determine an appropriate course of action for resolving a problem

Physical Requirements

  • Able to visually read documents or computer screens for prolonged periods of time with periodic breaks
  • Able to hear adequately to interact with clients and coworkers in person or by telephone
  • Able to perform coordinated movements to operate computer and other office machinery

Work Conditions

  • Work Conditions: Work schedule may involve frequent revisions due to changing business priorities or may require the ability to repeat the same task continually throughout the workday
  • Work Conditions: Work requires high performance standards and may involve frequent direction and instruction from supervisors or peers
  • Must be available to work on-call, overtime, various shifts, 7 days a week, as well as weekends and holidays

  • Work Conditions: Employee must be able to work a minimum of a 40 hour work week and may be required to work 16 hour day; Rest days may vary during the work week

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Work Conditions: Work is performed in a Call Center environment; Employees wear headsets when calling and answering phone calls
  • Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires
  • Willingness to practice safe work habits
  • To the extent required by federal law and/or collective bargaining agreement, membership to the respective labor union is required. The union agreement dictates the pay rate and cannot be individually negotiated. Monthly dues are the responsibility of the employee.
