Aspen Middle School is seeking a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Assistant Coach for the 2025-26 seasons
Season 1 runs from August 18 until November 20.
Season 2 (if teams qualify) continues until January 15.

Position Title: FIRST LEGO League Robotics Assistant Coach
Department: Aspen Middle School Robotics Program
Reports to: FLL Robotics Head Coach and Principal
Classification: Classified Part-time
Contract Period: Seasonal (Renewed annually by the Athletic & Activities Director and Middle School Principal.)
Compensation: Stipend at the end of the season / Range: $2,700 - $3,362.95 depending on experience
I: Position Summary
- The assistant coach will help plan, lead, and support an educational robotics program that develops student problem-solving, teamwork, and engineering skills while emphasizing access for all, empathy, integrity, and fun.
II: Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend 2 team meetings/practices per week, and competitions during the season
- Support student teams in designing, building, and programming LEGO robots
- Encourage innovative thinking, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®
- Help students prepare for judged presentations, including research projects and teamwork challenges
- Demonstrate integrity, leadership, strong organizational and communication skills
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of the robotics coaching team
- Model professional conduct, courtesy, and respect for students and colleagues
- Promote the mission of Aspen Middle School and Aspen School District
III: Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Willingness to mentor middle school students in STEM and teamwork
- Ability to support students in basic mechanical design and LEGO robotics programming (Word Blocks, Python)
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Demonstrates empathy, positivity, trust, responsibility, discipline, and flexibility
IV: Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must meet all district volunteer or coaching requirements, including background checks
V: Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with middle school students
- Knowledge of LEGO robotics, programming, or engineering concepts
- Teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience in any field
- Interest in STEM outreach and education
VI: Work Environment
- Mostly clean, comfortable indoor environment (classrooms, labs)
- Occasional travel to local competitions or events
- Some exposure to computer screens and LEGO robotics components
VII: Essential Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and sitting
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. (robot kits, materials)
- Ability to assist students in working with LEGO kits and laptops
