Starting at $67,126 - $70,000/year

Supports the community recreation goals of the City of Troy and the Recreation Department.
Works collaboratively to plan and develop new programs while pursuing innovation to meet the current and future needs of the community. Reports to the Recreation Director.
- Develop, plan, evaluate, and supervise recreation programs, activities and events appropriate for Sports (including sports camps, leagues, lessons, field and court scheduling.
- Assist with planning and supervising the Farmers Market, Summer Concerts, and other Special Events throughout the year.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise staff and volunteers. Evaluates staff performance, classes, and provides feedback; administer discipline as needed. Selects, evaluates, and coordinates the services of independent contractors.
- Respond to questions, complaints and concerns from the public, contractors and employees in a professional manner.
- Model and teach excellent customer service and preventative safety.
- Practices effective conflict resolution.
- Work with the marketing staff to prepare marketing materials; effectively advertise and market department recreation programs; achieve and maintain positive public relations. Promotes interest in recreation programs and Community Center. May develop sponsorship relationships.
- Develop operational budget for specific recreation programs and events.
- Follow required purchasing guidelines, solicits bids, collects data, and prepares reports as required.
- Assist with program registrations, inputs program information into registration software.
- Community liaison for schools, sports groups, and clubs.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure, Sports Management, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of recent full-time (or four (4) years of recent part-time) paid work experience coordinating community-based sports programs. Must include supervisory responsibilities and experience coordinating League programs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skills in marketing, project/program management, and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines while responding to frequent interruptions.
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). Out of state applicants must provide current driving record prior to interview, if selected, and obtain State of Michigan license within one (1) month of appointment.
- Experience with recreation software and financial software (prefer Civic Rec and New World Systems).
- Experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training staff and volunteers.
- Public speaking background.
HOURS
Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. Occasional evenings and weekends.
